To help us achieve our goals of creating, a web page, a PowerPoint presentation and a newsletter, we were introduced to a professional Jenny Wood.
Jenny writes for the magazine, Company (in the top five most popular magazines) and has been working there for three years. She has advanced from her year doing an University degree in communications and working on the universities radio, television and newspaper, to doing a course as a post graduate and then getting a job. In the job she also worked her way up from being a deputy feature editor to the feature editor role. There are about thirty members of staff working on the magazine in different departments, that include : the art department, feature editors, fashion teams and subs. The feature editors investigate different topics including celebrities. The fashion teams look into beauty, makeup and fashionable clothing. The art department co-ordinate pictures with text and to make the magazine look professional they always use the same font and colours etc... The subs check over pieces and articles that have been written and check all the facts, dates, spellings and if needed crop the amount of writing down. Once the magazine is completed it is sent to lawyers who check that everything that has been written is legal.

While she was here she explained about her job and took a look at what she had done so far. She read and looked at writing, pictures and logos and suggests the best way to improve them. We asked her what the strangest thing she had ever written about was, and she came out with the witty answer 'Plastic Surgery and Liposuction!' She is now thought of by her colleagues as a plastic surgery expert as she has watched breast enlargement, a breast reduction and a liposuction operation.

Jenny has been really helpful in helping us with our projects and giving us an inside view on the world of publishing. It's been great fun talking to her and learning new skills and she has convinced some of us to join the editing team.
