LTFC Opening

As we opened the door, the clumsy air fumbled in and paralysed our hands and feet. The temperate was a total 20 degrees colder outside than in the warm heated car. Somehow we all made it there on time without the stress of getting lost. Luton Rugby Club House ............... We moved up to the pitch as a group, Teeth chattering began to echo around. We settled down on a waterproof mat by the side of the pitch and set up umbrellas, as it had started to rain. We also used them to keep out the wind, as the 10-degree outside temperature felt warm compared to the wind-chill temperature of 5 degrees.
We huddled together for warmth and watched the two competing teams warm up with different exercises. We tried to get some background on the local team by talking to some of the player's parents, as well as the local sports reporter.
.Interview with Patrick...Interview with Christine
One mother-Christine, expresses her views to us, she predicted the end result would be 2-1 to Luton, and that one of the goals would be spectacularly scored by her son-Sean (who played number 8 on the field). When we put our opinions of girls playing more sports (including football) she politely told us that she had watched girls play and that it should really be left to the male of the species.
The reporter- Patrick Johnson, gave us some information on then two teams that were playing. It was Luton versus Northampton, with Luton playing at home. The eleven players on the Luton team were:

Team Players Names On the Ball
Christine then assured us that her son, and Keith at number seven, would be the best players and guarantee the team victory. The game started at 11.00 am and from the start there was much talent. The ball was professionally passed from player to player and intercepted by both teams well. The ball was kicked, headed, passed and thrown around the pitch but the Luton team did exceptionally well in keeping the ball down the end they were shooting. This skill gave them an advantage as they could have more opportunities to score. The ball was shot around speedily and got flung towards our huddle of Guides and umbrellas several times.
By half time the score was 1-0 to Luton, scored by number 10 (Mathew Judge), and a few near misses and lucky saves from both goalies. At half time we continued our interview with the reporter and found out more about football and the team. The team has played abroad a few times but it has become too expensive to do it lately. Also they have played some more games in the competition, that they were also playing in today. They have won two, lost two and drew two so the outcome of this match would either move them from the centre of the table, up or down.

Half Time Talk with the Luton Players
One of our Guide reporters and one photographer made their way over to the referees to talk to them about the game and got very positive responses. The team trains for five hours a day, which is split between the morning session and the afternoon session.

Match officials ......Interview with the Players
After half time play resumed, with particular effort and some aggression from the Luton team, who added another two goals to their score and securing an upward movement on the results table, bringing the final score to 3-0 to Luton. These were scored spectacularly again by Mathew and by Cutis Davies (not by the wonderful number 5, so Natalie was disappointed).
We left the pitch chattering but content. The game had been refreshingly cold but satisfying, a few in our group went and talked to some of the players to get an inside view and the rest of us headed straight for the heated cars.
The players of the Luton team, thought they had played better than usual and that the whole game had been a success. They were also asked about their hopes or dreams in a football career and both number eight and number eleven said that their dream is to play for their country (Ireland and England respectively).
We all enjoyed the game as for many of us it was our first. We all came away from the match with thoughts and impressions and for most of us a chill that lasted the whole day!
