Cinderellas
Christmas Ball
On
Saturday 20th May 3rd Henlow Guides set off on their own mini version
in support of the Playtex Moonwalk.
Wearing
either bras over the top of their T-shirts or pink t-shirts they
braved the wind and the rain undaunted in their determination to
raise money for breast cancer research.
After
being dropped off at Meppershall they walked over fields and roads
to Shefford where they stopped off for a welcome bag of chips before
heading towards Clifton. The rain held off for most of the journey
although it was muddy and wet underfoot.
They
were then welcomed warmly at the Engineers Arms where they rattled
their pink collecting bucket at the unsuspecting but generous customers.
Then over the road to Raynsford School for a sleepover in the school
hall! Undefeated by their long walk they stayed up til 2.30am chatting
and laughing and having a good time.
A
cheques for around £100.00 will be sent to the charity on
behalf of 3rd Henlow Guides. With thanks to Kevin and Claire at
The Engineers Arms and also Raynsford Lower School for allowing
them to use the school for the "after party".

On
Sunday 1st July, over 70 the East Bedfordshire Rainbows celebrated
their 20th Birthday by having a Cowboys and Indians party at Raynsford
Lower School in Henlow.

The
weather forecast was not good, but turned out to be very kind to
us on the day and the Rainbows were able to paint their Wigwams
outside and also the boxes that made up the totem pole.
Each of the 9 Units wore a different colour and this theme continued
into the head dresses that they made and the face painting that
they were all able to have.
When
the skies did darken we went into the school hall, to sit around
the totem pole, and after enjoying their rainbow coloured cakes,
were entertained by Gerry Pope and sang lots of songs.
All
of the Rainbows had a great day and special thanks must go to all
of the Guiders and associated helpers who took part in the organisation
of the day and also those who gave up their Sunday afternoon; Anne
and Adrian Maynard who cooked the hotdogs and hamburgers and special
thanks to the headmistress of Raynsford Lower School for allowing
us the use of the school at very short notice, when we decided it
was not worth the risk of rain at Boyd field
The
1st Chicksands Rainbows raised £50
during their World Thinking Day celebrations by taking part in the
Bedfordshire Girl Guiding event 'Tea in Beds'. The 10 girls, aged
5-7 years, invited their families for tea and cake during their
normal weekly meeting on the 19th February 2008. The Rainbows themselves
looked after their guests by selling raffle tickets, taking orders
and serving the cakes. The money raised from the raffle and kind
donations will go to the World Thinking Day Fund, which will support
the work of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts
in developing guiding around the world.
