Extension
After a number of years fundraising Luton South Division
are excited and pleased to announce that they have now been
able to set a date to start the building.
The Builders are due to start on Monday 21st July and the Building
Programme will run for approximately 18 weeks.
A group of members from Luton South Division gathered together
on Friday 18th July 2003 to celebrate the start of the Extension.
The
photo above represents members from all sections of Luton South
Division Guiding: Rainbow - Katy, Brownie - Lucy, Guide - Hannah,
Ranger - Emma, Young Leaders - Sarah and Kay, Trefoil Guild
- Sheila and Enid, Division Commissioner - Kim, Division Assistant
- Deborah, Division President - Margaret, County Commissioner
- Margaret and not forgetting the Builder, A group of well wishers
attended to witness the start.
Although
we still require more money we are now in a position to start
the building although further fundraising will continue to raise
funds to furnish the building. The
gathered group celebrated with a toast and a slice of cake.
Keep coming back to see the progress!
One
month into the Building work and already the foundations
have been dug and the first signs of a wall can be seen.
A work party took place on Saturday 16th August where the position
of the new campfire circle was marked and a few barrows of earth
moved to mark the start of the slopes which will form the outer
walls of the campfire circle.

October 2nd 2003 The building work is now progressing well.
The footings, foundations and outer walls well under way. It
is anticipated that within the next two weeks the roof will
be in place and the internal work will commence.
We
have managed to raise a bit more money and it is now hoped that
we will be able to complete the inside with the exception of
the washroom and toilet block for the field users. Please keep
helping us with our fundraising events and who knows we may
soon be able to complete the whole extension.
20th
October 2003. The external building is almost complete the
main building now has a pitched roof. The Building work has
unfortunately put the toilets out of service. But the novelty
of portable toilets on the field make for quite a bit of excitement
for Brownies!

We
now await to see the work progressing to the inside.
Call back again to see how it progresses.
November
18th 2003 The scaffolding is now down from the outside of
the building. The work is progressing inside and the first phase
of the work is due to complete by 12th December.

The walls have now been plastered, the heating, toilets and
fittings are due to be installed in the next week or so. Work
has started on decorating the main hall, this area has not been
affected by the building work but is in need of a new coat of
paint. Still a lot of fundraising to go!
Bunk
Room Guiders
Room
November 23rd The Guiders room will be bigger than our
old one with a Guiders Bathroom leading from it. It will also
have access to the Bunk room.
The formation of the new rooms is now complete. Fittings and
decorating will be taking polace during the next three weeks.
The extra space will really make a difference. Come back soon
to see the finished extension.
The Disabled toilet still has a way to go!
The new lobby will be twice the size of the current one with
a first aid roon leading from it. Our full plans include an
outside toilet block but lack of funds mean that althought he
room has been built the furnishing will need a lot more fundraising
before we can complete.
24th
January 2004. The building work is now complete with the
exception of the outside toilet block. (Need to start fundraising
again to complete this bit.) We are now spending our time finishing
of the decorations, hanging curtains, painting the original
part of the Building and lots more. We have now ordered Bunk
beds for the Bunk Room thanks to sponsors offering to pay for
them.
Thanks
to everyone who has helped us in any way.

Saturday
3rd April 2004.
At last we are able to hold a celebration of our achievements
so far. The building work and re-furbishment to the Bunk room
etc have been completed. Today Sir Graham Bright and Joan Lentz
officially opened the extension. A big thank you to everyone
who has helped along the way. Special thanks go to Deborah without
whom we would still be struggling to raise the money. Her determination
and management skills have kept us all focused and just look
below at the wonderful day we had to celebrate the achievement!
The day consisted of a lunch for the VIP's, followed by the
ceremony, a wide game, a picnic tea, a campfire after which
the girls all left the field to walk back to meet their parents,
just look at the happy faces to see that everyone enjoyed the
day.

After a day filled with fun and friendship the girls are ready
to go home.
