We are Wide Awake Wide Awake

Teaching life skills is an important part of what we do in Guiding to help the girls reach their potential in a way which makes learning fun. This year, activities we put on included:

  • Learning fire safety awareness by 7th Leighton Buzzard Brownies.
  • Deaf and Sight awareness activities by Lewsey Farm District.
  • Visit to"Hazard Alley" in Milton Keynes by Lewsey farm and Wardown Districts to look at safety issues.
  • Brownies in South Bedfordshire worked with the RSPB to look at wild life protection issues.
  • Teaching makaton sign language to the 1st Henlow Rainbows.
  • A sleepover at the Science museum in London proved popular with the 3rd Potton Brownies and a good way of getting the girls to have fun with science.
  • Guides from the 1st Sundon unit in Luton went to camp where their theme for the week was "The Black Death". Guides were issued with a daily newspaper "The Vermin" and took part in gruesome activities to teach history in action.
