JEANNE WAIN
Jeanne with her award
Jeanne has been involved in Guiding for most of her life holding various positions during that time, Guider, Camp Adviser, District Commissioner, Division Commissioner for Luton, County Commissioner for Bedfordshire and more recently County President for Girlguiding Bedfordshire. Jeanne is currently a Vice-President for Girlguiding Bedfordshire and Chair of the Haverings Trefoil Guild. Jeanne is a key figure at both of Luton’s Guide Training Centres Haverings and Woodcroft having raised many hundreds of pounds for extensions and general upkeep of these buildings. Jeanne has many qualities but to pick on a couple, she is always smiling and she is a fantastic cook. If you ever get the opportunity to sample Jeanne’s Lemon bombe then you will know what I mean and agree 100%.
Jeanne regularly hosts fundraising dinners which are always extremely popular, as well as raising many hundreds of pounds for Guiding locally she has also raised in excess of £5,000 through these dinners for Girlguiding Anglia’s Region Training Centre in Norfolk. This money has helped to update the centre and install a lift. Jeanne is Chair of the Friends of Hautbois (the name of the centre in Norfolk) and visits regularly.
For many people this would be enough to fill their time. Not for Jeanne, as Jeanne has also been a regular volunteer for the Womens Voluntary Service at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for a number of years. As far as I know Jeanne has volunteered in the Maternity Department of the hospital for at least 8 – 10 years and possibly longer.
Jeanne was nominated for the Award by Paul Hunt.

SUE HUNT
Sue with her award
Sue has been nominated for all the hard work and effort she puts into helping the young girls of Luton through her various roles within Girl Guiding in Bedfordshire.
As part of being a Guider, she helps to run a Guide unit in the South Luton area and is the Guider in charge of a Brownie unit in the Farley Hill area. She is also one of the first people to raise a hand when volunteers are needed for events, such as recently helping to plant trees at the Haverings Girl Guide Centre.
Many people think that being involved in Girl Guiding is only a commitment to one night per week. This however is not true. As well as the unit meeting there are weekends away with the units, various parades together with planning and district meetings. In Sue’s case there are also Divisional meetings as she is the Assistant Division Commisioner for the Luton South Division. Also as a member of the Trefoil Guild there are more unit meetings and events to help at. To sum it up there are some weeks when Sue is lucky is get one night a week to herself. The movement is very lucky to have a member as dedicated as Sue.
Sue was nominated by Laura Armstrong.
