LUTON SOUTH
DIVISION

luton South Division take part in a sleepover at the Luton Mall
Imagine a Saturday night, 150 girls and boys all sleeping "rough" in The mall in Luton. Well that's just what Luton Scouts and Guides did. The object was to raise awareness in NOAH, who seek to help the most disadvantaged in the local community. The young people taking part raised money by getting friends and family to sponsor them to sleep in the Mall over night. During the Saturday evening they took part in activities raising awareness of the plight of homeless and disadvantaged people in the Luton area.

Luton South Division

Luton South covers the south and central parts of Luton including Stopsley, the airport area, central Luton, Farley Hill and Caddington. There are 4 Districts each organised by a District Commissioner and her team. There are currently 38 units as follows:
2 Ranger units
8 Guide Companies
19 Brownie Packs
8 Rainbow units
1 Trefoil Guild
Each of the units are run by a team of dedicated Guiders and adult helpers. These teams give their time freely to organise unit meetings, fund raising events and outings for their members and lots more.
The Division has a management team of 20 people both uniformed and non uniformed members who take care of the day to day running of the Division.

Haverings

Luton South Division is privileged to own Haverings. Training centre, Pack Holiday home and camping ground. This provides significant benefits for Luton South Division Brownies, Guides and Rainbows but also brings with it a heavy responsibility to ensure that the rest of the Guiding community can benefit from this valuable resource. This responsibility is undertaken by a group of volunteers including Division Guiders and helpers and relatives and friends.

Haverings Work Programme
Haverings gives pleasure to many people but it also requires a lot of upkeep. We would like to thank our many members and supporters, without whose help we would not be able to keep Haverings looking so good. We have recently replaced all the doors, windows and guttering. We are curently putting our main efforts into restoring the woodland. One of our projects underway is to define a pathway through the woods and to hopefully put signs up to inform visitors of the many varied trees, plants and wildlife that lives in the woods.

We recently extended Haverings our Pack Holiday Home and Camping Ground.

LOCAL GUIDES A BACK STAGE HIT WITH BLAZIN SQUAD
Wembley Arena holds Girlguiding UK's Big Gig
Local Guides from Luton South Division were among the lucky chosen ones to go back stage and meet with pop's biggest celebs. On Saturday 11th October, 11,000 Guides saw their favourite pop stars perform exclusively for Girlguiding UK at Wembley Arena. But it was some of the girls from Luton who got to mingle back stage with the acts.
The girls mixed with pop pin-ups Blazin Squad, Lemar, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, D-Side, Holly Valance, David Sneddon, Lisa Scott-Lee, Sinead Quinn, Mark Owen, Jamelia and not forgetting those Cheeky Girls.
Tickets for the Big Gig sold out within a record time of 90 minutes, not even Justin Timberlake could top that one. There are 133,000 Guides across the UK, enough to fill Wembley 12 times!
As a local leader said "It was a fantastic event, not just for the girls but for us adults too. Guiding always keeps me young! The atmosphere was unbelievable and seeing the girls faces when they were talking to Lemar and all of Blazin Squad makes being a part of Guiding so worthwhile."
Sarah a Young Leader in Luton South Division, said "The concert was amazing. I was so excited when I actually met Blazin Squad. It was the best day ever and one I'll never forget!"
