Our Commitment to the Environment |
Hand in hand with our commitment to others is our commitment to the environment. Our programme and activities give us the opportunity to demonstrate the importance of caring for the world around us and preserving its beauty for future generations |
One of the ways in which we have helped to care for the environment in Bedfordshire is through our involvement in the Guide Association's national Environment Challenge. This exciting scheme - which ran from September 1998 to February 2000 - has given us a framework within which our units can become involved in practical projects at a local level. |

Another unit which deserves special mention is the 2nd Goldington Brownie Pack which was runner up in the Millennium Blake Shield - an environmental competition run by the British Naturalist's Association. The work was rewarded with a trip to London to meet the environmentalist David Bellamy. |

"Brownies is fun, entertaining and you learn something every day about how to have a kinder-lovely life" Brownie "Last year at Brownies we did a project together. We chose to record the changes at Goldington Spinney throughout the seasons. We did a lot of work on our project and when it was finished Brown Owl entered it in the Blake Shield Challenge. Imagine our surprise when we realised we had been specially commended in the junior section of the award! On the 2nd December 2000, we went to Imperial College in London. We sat and listened to Professor David Bellamy talking - he was funny! We watched everyone being given their prizes and then it was our turn. We were each given a pack with a t-shirt, a book and two magazines. We were also given a certificate for the whole Brownie Pack. When it was all over, we had our photograph taken with Professor Bellamy and got his autograph. It was a lovely day out and we enjoyed it very much." Eleanor Styles 2nd Goldington Brownie Pack |
