Celebrating the Millennium

Enjoying a Camp Fire

Events were held throughout Bedfordshire during 2000 to celebrate the Millennium. These included shows, events for parents and parties. Kempston Guides held a massive party to which girls invited their families. Over 130 visitors came and everyone had a wonderful time!!

The main event for the whole of the county was STOMP. This was held on 24th June at Cardinal Newman School in Luton.

The day ended with a campfire which was lit at 7.15pm to become one of a chain of beacons across the length and breadth of the land. We were still singing at 8 o'clock in unison with Guides throughout the country. This was our way of joining with our Guiding friends to say 'thank you' for this new Millennium.

......Imagine 1800 members of the Guide Association walking a distance equivalent to 25 times round the county, running or participating in a range of activities from treasure hunts, "It's a Knockout" and pioneering to games through the ages, bouncy castles and water divining.
