After 14 years of age, Guides can choose to join what is called
the Association’s Senior Section. This is an all-embracing term
for young women aged 14-25, including:
Ranger Guides
Lone Rangers
Young Leaders
British Youth Council delegation members
Female LINK members
Junior Council members
Members of Student Scout and Guide Clubs
Young Guiders, commissioners and advisers
Female members of joint units
Members of the Senior Section will wear a uniform which is appropriate
for the group they belong to and will also make a Promise and wear
a Promise badge to link them with Guiding.
Meetings and activities will depend on the type of group to which
the young woman belongs. Generally, however, their programme will
be flexible and will be driven by the young women themselves, with
Guiders helping to facilitate activities.

BECOMING A YOUNG LEADER
Young leaders are young women aged 14+ - 18 who have decided they
want to help run a Rainbow, Brownie or Guide unit.
Whilst they are helping with the unit, they can work towards their
Basic Leadership Qualification between 14 – 16 or, from 16 – 18,
the Guide Association Leadership Scheme. Through each of these training
schemes, the young woman will be helped to achieve her potential,
especially as a leader, and to learn the skills of leadership in
a Guiding context. They will therefore not only gain practical and
useful experience of working with groups of girls (useful if they
want to take a childcare or teaching qualification later on) but
they will also have the opportunity to receive formal training in
a range of subjects from First aid to working with difficult youngsters.
" I have been a young leader since I was 14. I am now 18 and have
recently received my warrant as an adult leader. I am going to university
in September to train to be a PE teacher. Not only will my leadership
training give me an advantage on my college course, but it also
helped me to get my place at college – the people who interviewed
me were more interested in what I could show them I had achieved
with the Brownies than in my academic qualifications"
In Bedfordshire,
we are always looking out for high calibre young people who want
to take our leadership training. If you want to join us, click
