The
4th Leighton Buzzard Brownie group has raised £435.45
for the National Deaf Children's Society as part of Girlguiding
UK's centenary celebrations.

The girls have discovered how to sign their names and make the
Brownie Promise using British Sign Language (BSL). They also
learnt how to finger spell, as well as playing games and doing
activities involving lip reading and hand signals.
The raised money in two ways, first was by filling smartie tubes
with 20p's. But their biggest triumph was a sponsored silence
in May during which the Brownies were not allowed to speak for
more than an hour. They even had to use sign language or hand
signals when they needed to go to the toilet.
Brown Owl,
Kim Mead, says: "The Brownies did really well, I'm so impressed
with them all. They've worked hard, learnt a bit about the challenges
deaf children face and had great fun raising money for the National
Deaf Children's Society."

Amanda, Woburn
District Commissioner organised the Crocus walk held in Bedfordshire
on Sun 9th March 2009. Members walked from Woburn Sands to Cranfield,
via the scenic route, over railway lines, through golf courses,
across fields, over the motor way (M1) and ended up at Cranfield
Village Hall in time for a nice cuppa and a cake. The weather
was very kind to us and 10 minutes after the last person arrived
at the village hall the heavens opened and we were all like
'phew'!! that was close.
It was the best turn out Amanda would like to thank everyone
who came and to let you all know we raised £443. WELL
DONE!!

Cranfield
Rainbows had a visit from a local lady Bee Keeper as part of
Buzzzin in beds in February 2009, she came out dispite the snow
and even though only 6 rainbows turned up we had a great evening,
tasting honey, making candles and learning about bees and their
hives.

During
in the Easter holiday South Beds Guiders, Trefoil Guild
members and friends took part in a fun Quiz Night. As the rounds
progressed we identified we knew very little about the countries
in Europe and sport and not a lot more about Bedfordshire, however
most teams faired better in the food and drink round.
As well as answering questions the teams were challenged to
make the tallest tower they could using marshmallows, cocktail
sticks and straws. There were many inventive approaches, the
most successful from the teams that ate most of their marshmallows.
After some tense measuring, Sheelagh, Anita June and Julie's
tower was declared the winners.
However the overall quiz winners, and retaining their unbeaten
record, were the Woburn contingent of Lindsay, Gail, Jan, Angie
and their secret weapon, Jan's Auntie Dawn. Everyone enjoyed
the evening and hopefully we'll do it again soon.
South
Beds celebrates World Thinking Day 2008
Units and Districts throughout South Beds Division have had
great fun celebrating World Thinking Day.
Linleighbridge District held a special celebration at Hockliffe
St Baptist Church. A service was held where all girls and adults
renewed their Guiding promise and thought provoking readings
inspired them to look for new challenges. They rounded off the
evening with a disco, lots of craft activities and of course
party food. The guests included the County Commissioner Kathy
Carroll and the Assistant County Commissioner Betsy Marley.
Also Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have also been taking up
the Girlguiding Bedfordshire challenge. 'Tea in Beds'. Teddy
Bears Picnics, tea parties and tea dances have all been enjoyed
by the girls and their families and friends.
Rainbows,
Brownies, Guides, Senior Section members and Guiders are pictured

South Beds
Division Guide Patrol Challenge Day

In June 2007 South Beds Division held a Guide Patrol Challenge
day at Milton Bryan camp site. Fourteen patrols took part in a
variety of challenges including climbing and abseiling, rescuing
frogs, a blind trail, catching 'fish' on the lake, feelie boxes,
walk the plank and loads more. After a rainy start we were blessed
with fine weather and all had fun with the challenges and team
work. The winning patrol were from 2nd Leighton Buzzard with the
runners up from 3rd Heath and Reach. All participants received
a special Patrol Challenge Go For It and a prize. Well done to
everyone who took part and thanks to all the Guiders and parents
who helped.
